About us

Our Mission

Ric-Den Kennels is dedicated to raising healthy, happy puppies in a safe, comfortable, and clean environment. It is our goal to place all of our puppies in homes with families that will love and care for them in a manner that they are deserving of.

Ric-Den Kennels is located in Duplin County NC just outside of the town of Mount Olive, home of Mount Olive Pickles and the University of Mount Olive. We began the kennel in 2021 with a vision of creating a facility that would provide a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for the dogs in our care and that we would be proud to have potential future puppy owners visit.

Our facilities consist of 3 climate-controlled buildings with each building having multiple bays for the dogs. Each bay has its own access to outside covered runs on concrete. The buildings are connected to an automatic generator that will come on in the event of a power failure, ensuring uninterrupted cooling or heating for the dogs depending on the weather.

The buildings have a camera security system that will send alarms should any intrusion be detected. We also have cameras on any bays that contain puppies so that we can monitor their status at any time.

Unlike some breeders that will not allow you to come to their facilities and want to meet you in a location that is remote from their kennel, we welcome you to make an appointment and come visit ours. We want you to see how our puppies and their moms and dads are taken care of. The only requirement that we have, is that on the day of your visit, you agree to not visit any business, kennel, vets office, etc. where dogs are allowed and you do not know their vaccination status.

We will in all cases allow you to see the puppy you are interested in but we may not allow you to handle the puppy. That will be age dependent and may vary from puppy to puppy. The moms and dads for our puppies will be onsite and you will be allowed to see them also.

Puppies are usually ready to leave at 8 weeks but, that again may vary from puppy to puppy.

Our puppies are put on a regular deworming schedule when they are 2 weeks old and will remain on that schedule until they leave for their new homes. Vaccinations are started at 6 weeks of age and should be given every 3 weeks through age 15 weeks or according to your veterinarian’s instructions. We do have the dew claws removed on all of our puppies.

Most of our moms and dads are AKC registered, with several having Champion and Grand Champion bloodlines, and we will offer “full” registration rights on most of the puppies that we sell. If you are a breeder and would wish to purchase one of our puppies, then we may require that you send us pictures and information on your facilities prior to agreeing to the sale. We do have a contract, a copy of which can be found on this website.

In addition to the registration application, our puppies will come with a health record that shows all deworming’s, vaccinations, and other medical information if any. Our contract contains a Health Guarantee and all puppies will receive a veterinarian exam prior to leaving our kennel. There will also be a small goody bag with blankets and toys the puppy has gotten used to playing with, any additional information about the breed or puppies in general that we think you may find beneficial, and a sample of the food we feed the puppy.

For further information on the kennel, any of our puppies, or to schedule an appointment to come visit us, you will find our contact information on the Contact Us page. We welcome emails, text, or phone calls.

We specialize in breeding Chihuahuas, Miniature Dachshunds, Boston Terriers and Pugs. The majority of our puppies are AKC registered and come with full breeding rights unless otherwise specified.

Guidelines for Visiting Our Kennel

Ricky and I understand that deciding to bring a puppy into your home to become a part of your family requires a years long commitment of your time, your attention, your love, and your finances. And, in exchange, you are going to get a best friend, a loyal companion, and a trusted confidant. We also understand that you would really like to meet this little girl/guy before making that commitment. We also know, that it is our job to care for and protect that little puppy for as long as he or she is entrusted to us.

Parvo can be a deadly disease for unvaccinated puppies and dogs and is highly contagious. Fortunately, Parvo is not an airborne virus but it is a hardy virus and can survive for months on surfaces. Parvo is spread by contact. We work diligently to keep our kennel clean and disease free. We ask you to help us as we endeavor to have a safe environment for our puppies.

With that said, we have the following guidelines for visiting our kennel. To help protect our puppies, we ask that you please abide by them.

  • Visitation is by appointment only.
  • In order to accommodate our cleaning schedules, visitation hours are between 11AM and 4PM. We can be available weekdays or weekends if we have no schedule conflicts.
  • No pets are allowed. We know you would not bring an unvaccinated dog to the kennel, but strange people get our babies excited, strange dogs make them go crazy.
  • If you have unvaccinated dogs at home, please do not come to our kennel.
  • On the day of your visit, please do not visit any other kennel, any business that allows pets (other than service animals), a veterinarian’s office, a dog park, or any other location where dogs are allowed and you are unsure of the vaccination status of those dogs.
  • We will require you to sanitize your shoes (it is not as complicated as it sounds) and hands.
  • You will always be able to see the puppies and their moms and dads, but you may not be allowed to hold them. That is puppy dependent and determined on a case-by-case basis.
